My right shoulder always feels it needs to crack around my trapezius, and has pain/tightness. my friend( who knows massage techniques but does not have real training) says my shoulder is locked. is there any other reasons it would do this?

Not feasible to provide precision as question is a bit ambiguous. But if you do have decreased shoulder motion, you could possess adhesive capsulitis, perhaps secondary to thyroid or diabetic causation. See a doctor, and evaluate your symptoms.
