Niacin is not effective in reducing cholesterol and could give you side effects more frequently. I do not believe it is a "natural" supplement in the doses commonly ingested. Statins are predictably effective against high cholesterol are the agents of choice. Get your doctor's advice and opinion and consider statins seriously. I wish you good luck.

Red yeast rice is available over the counter, and can be effective. It is similar to atorvastatin, but certainly not as potent.

The other 2 things that might be worthwhile, would be adding EFA-Fish oil 3000mg/d to support membrane(live ) function, and eating a vegan diet for a while(1-6mo) to see if that is helpful.

For most people, the best way to lower cholesterol is to watch your diet - like replacing unhealthy fats with healthy ones and increasing fiber, quitting smoking, exercising, and weight loss. But if you have one of a handful of genetic conditions causing very high cholesterol, then there may be no avoiding prescription medicine. If you provide your lipid levels, it may allow for a better answer.
