Yes it can be very uncomfortable . You need to have it worked up further to determine if it is something new or long standing. If new, it could be related to new medication or diet. If chronic , can be Chronic idiopathic constipation or IBS-C. In any case you should see your primary care physician to see if they can help or refer you to a gastroenterologist for further work up.

It is common to feel rundown due to constipation. If you’ve had some bowel movements since the constipation started, then some things you can try at home include: drinking extra water, avoiding caffeine/alcohol, eating whole grains and fiber, and exercising. If you have gone a week without producing any stool, then contact your doctor for next steps based on your health history.
