A member asked:

When i play soccer my avg heart rate is about 155-170 bpm. according to charts 170 should be the number i reach. occasionally, my heart rate goes to 190 or even 200 bpm during vigorous exercise. is it ok to go beyond 85% of my maximum heart rate?

At your age and with your level of fitness I would not be concerned with transient increases in the heart rate as described. Remember that in a fit individual, the rate will rapidly decrease to levels well below 100. Short lived increases in heart rate beyond 85% are safe. If the rate fails to decrease rapidly, I would check with your doctor to be sure. Encourage you to continue to be active.
