If you have had any type of trauma to the area (a burn from hot food or impact with a sharp object) it could be caused by that type of thing, but more likely cause would be a viral infection causing an ulcer there (syphilis from oral sex Gould cause a chancre in the mouth but it is usually not painful) . Warm salt water gargles, lots of liquids, & Tylenol /ibuprofen can help. If worse see Dr

It's difficult to tell because we do not have the image. If you are not at risk for STD, I think you may have an aphthous ulcer or canker sore. This will hurt when you eat. You can put Orajel on it (teething gel for children) several times a day, especially before meal. The ulcer will heal by itself in a couple days. If you are at risk for STD, please see a doctor for help.

Size, onset, duration, depth, color, texture? May be ulcer (usually viral) or traumatic lesion. Treat symptoms: Take Ibuprofen (exactly as per pkg instructions), dab on Orabase-B w Q-tip, avoid hot and/or spicy foods. Should be completely gone in 2 weeks. If not, see your Dentist, a specialist Oral Pathologist, or a specialist Oral Surgeon.
