A member asked:

1.can hydroxyzine be prescribed for anxiety? 2.does it have at least half the strenght of a benzo? 3.is it safe for long term use?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

See below: 1. Yes, it can be prescribed for anxiety, particularly the pamoate form of it. 2. It is not really possible to compare it strength-wise to benzos, as they are completely different drug classes. It is a good idea to try Hydroxyzine first, as it is not addicting like benzos are, and actually works well for a lot of people. 3. As i said above, it is not addicting, so generally safe for long-term use.
