acute inflammation and swelling with associated tenderness often persist for four months after fracture and all discomfort may take 8-10 months to resolve. Also could indicate associated soft tissue injury.

If the fracture did not heal completely, that can be a source of pain. More healing may occur, even after 3 months. But it is also possible that surrounding tissues were injured (also depending on where fracture is, and nature of the injury).
