It would depend on the chemicals that are in the smoke. Just buring meat is not a cause for concern. What is causing the smoke? What are you burning? Are you able to open the windows to clear out the smoke? Could you use a fan to blow out the smoke? Is it feasible to install an exhaust hood over the stove?

Maintain good ventilation, avoid smoke exposure. I agree that the composition of the smoke is important, but smoke exposure may cause bronchospasm.
