A member asked:

My twins were born 32 weeks. theyre 15 days old now. my daughter never cries. my son does though. doctors and nurses say clinically she is fine but i am so worried that my baby hasnt teallt cried yet. does this sound like a neurological concern?

Not particularly. I find that there is quite a variation in the crying patterns of normal preemies. I know it is hard not to prepare for & expect the worst, but with todays neonatal care I find the neurologic outcomes at that gestation are approaching that of kids born at term. There are plenty of other things to prepare yourself for at this time.

The twins were born prematurely but are not extremely premature. As they grow, your pediatrician will review their growth and development. Premature infants may require higher calorie formula or an addition to breast milk to increase calories. Please follow up for their two week visit with Pediatrics.
