A member asked:

My blood test showed a wbc of 5.2 with neutrophils as 2.77 (53.3%) the blood reports states neutrophils show left shift, can left shift be detected with auto analysers? should i be worried the fbc does state 'normal' (left shift isn't normal) thanks?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Talk to the doctor who ordered the tests. Having said that, auto-analyzers can detect left shift. If you had an infection, that could explain it. By itself is it not a cause for concern. Wish you good health!
