Patients with schizophrenia can be very intelligent although their condition may impact attention and memory but that doesn't mean that they're not intelligent.

Schizophrenia is associated with lower IQ than average. However, in my anecdotal experience, many diagnosed with schizophrenia have areas of exceptional ability. In some areas of memory or specific tasks they are gifted. The drugs used for treating schizophrenia decrease mental function. Some patients are misdiagnosed : disorders of the craniocervical junction , Heavy metal poisoning, Lymes
