Education improves IQ as does Mozart music.

There are multiple components to what is termed intelligence, and yes, schizophrenia does indeed affect portions of cognitive function. There are some reports of increased incidence of dementia in older chronic patients. Minimizing cognitive loss or enhancing intellectual abilities cannot be answered simply, other than to say, get treatment for any medical, neurological, or psychiatric disorders
