A member asked:

Doctor --i know you can not give a 100 percent accurate answer. but my daughter in law had a kidney removed 2 years ago, and blood test every 3 months after, but her wbc gone to 40,000 and platelets gone to 100,000. what going on--she is a runner?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

How old is your daughter in law? The WBC of 40,000 is not normal. So I would advise you to get the blood test repeated once more in order to be sure. Also important is to obtain a differential count and Hemoglobin level. If the WBC count remains over 15, 000 it is abnormal. Then you will need to see a blood specialist(Hematologist) for further testing to determine the cause of a High blood count.
