A member asked:

My potassium was low today at my endoscopy pre-op. i already eat a high-potassium diet and take supplements. should i increase it so my procedure isn't cancelled? they said it might be if my numbers don't improve?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Potassium is a double edged sword, too much or too little both are dangerous. If kidneys are working normal and you are not taking any medication which changes potassium level, then potassium can be given to normalize the level. Your efforts are appreciated but potassium replacement should be under supervision Hope it helps.
