If you close one eye and still see double images you have monocular diplopia which is usually due to irregular astigmatism. Your ophthalmologist should be able to diagnose the cause of either monocular or binocular diplopia and advise you of treatment options such as soft or hard contact lenses, or a prism in one lens of eyeglasses.
