Failure to produce: Anemia from lack of production, either due to lack of iron, B12 or frolic acid. Bone marrow failure is usually due to the above. The most important thing is to diagnose the cause.

Myelodysplasia: Myelodysplastic syndrome (mds) is a disease that is associated with decreased production of blood cells. Blood cells are produced in the bone marrow, and the blood cells of people with mds do not mature normally. There are three major types of blood cells—red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets. Patients with mds can have decreased production of one, two, or all three types of blood cells.

Low/defective blood: Underproduction or defective production is present. Causes include nutritional deficiencies (iron or vitamin deficiency) commonly and much less often can be due to myelodysplasia, aplastic anemia and other bone marrow failure states.
