A member asked:

Hi there, i was at work today i noticed someone who had a cold sore touched my hand near a cut that has a scab. im assuming he has touched his face as i see him doing that all the time. with a few minutes i pumped my hands with sanitizer am i at risk?

No, do not worry about it. Why? 1. Cold sore are secondary to herpes simplex virus that nearly all people have been infected with in childhood. We all have it. Immune system compromise even due to stress make the virus active; it is not a re-infection! 2. Your wound had a scab and it would prevent a re-entry. 3. Touching the face alone will not contain an infectious virus load.
