You may find that based on your blood pressure control and lab work, your doctor changed the dose for your good. HCTZ is a beneficial at low dose as it controls blood pressure but does not cause low potassium, high calcium, high uric acid excretion, alkalosis. If your Blood Pressure is controlled at thos dose, that would be way to go.please contact your doctor’s office. Hope it helps.

As a Hypertensionologist I often try to reduce meds once one has been controlled for some time. It is always ok to try to step down. If you eat Ed’s salt you may only need 12.5 HCTZ or your dr had another reason to step it down such as recommending you move to the DASH diet or you have had a low potassium problem in the past. Please discuss with the prescribing Dr. I am not a mind reader.
