Two issues here: There are two factors to consider when answering this question: 1-Strength of crown: a gold crown cannot break; any one with a ceramic surface can break although very small percentage. 2- Any tooth with a crown can decay around margins if poor oral hygiene or high sugar or acid intake. Each type of crown has advantages and disadvantages. Speak to your own dentist as to which is best for you.

Crown: A well made crown of any of these materials can be very long lasting. Factors that determine the material include, occlusal forces, length of the tooth, clenching or grinding of patient, oral hygiene, and cosmetics. Discuss this with your dentist
