I had an infection and abcess on my upper inner and back of thigh area. i was prescribed antibiotics and it has mostly healed but there is an opening with long stringy material that is hanging out of it. will this go away as it completely heals?

Very likely. There is probably residual fluid in the abscess which needs to drain out. So long as the surrounding area is no longer red, hot or tender, it is likely getting better. Cover it with a Bandaid to keep it clean, wash with soap and water twice daily.
