A member asked:

Eye prescription changed on my right eye from -5.50 to -5.75 in a year. im almost 37 years old and so close work with computer, phone, and painting/calligraphy. can those things increase my prescription or could this all be age-related?

The change you described is not that large and is likely a part of the natural process. Close work is not likely to be causative, though taking short breaks would help with your vision and general health. For healthy diet: http://www.choosemyplate.gov/., exercise 30 minutes/day, drink enough water daily so your urine is mostly colorless, have safe sex, no tobacco alcohol weed or street drugs.

A -0.25 diopter myopic shift is a small change, and could be the normal aging of the lens, but often an over-minus prescription is from focussing too hard at the phoropter. It might clarify the distance vision, but it means more accommodation at near. If you work long hours at a computer ask you eye doctor about "occupational glasses" for intermediate and near work to relax the accommodative tone.
