Is there a safe way (not anesthesia) to forcibly induce sleep? i'm not talking about prescription medication or over the counter items but rather a legal and not "terribly" unsafe method of forcing my brain to sleep without additional supervision?

Insomnia is common, and glad that you are trying to avoid sleeping pills. You are best advised to have your doctor evaluate the usual obstacles to restful sleep. A sleep hygiene program will be invaluable. Self hypnosis and meditation techniques may be helpful, and these can be learned. Good luck.
