A member asked:

Could an ovarian cyst cause you to have black discharge during the next period?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Not per se: An ovarian cyst by itself should not alter the menstrual bleeding. However, depending on the type of cyst, it may be associated with hormonal disturbance. Menstrual irregularities are not uncommon and anovulatory cycle is a common cause. If you miss more than two periods it would be time to see your doctor. If you do not wish to be pregnant, use contraception all the time. You may consider implanted contraceptive or an IUD.
