I recently received a nerve block injection for my c-spine (c5 herniation, and was told he would inject c6 to target the root nerve there) for neck and shoulder pain. however i was injected in my back. is this normal?

A steroid injection is usually placed as close as possible to the site of the disc. However, in the neck it is common practice to place it at C7-T1 because it is a bit safer due to the anatomy.
