Ultrasound has been shown to be as effective as CT scan in detecting laryngeal pathology. Of course Laryngoscopy, performed by the ENT, directly visualizes the larynx and enables the taking of a biopsy.

Ultrasound of neck is best for seeing enlarged lymph nodes, thyroid nodules, tumors.
