A member asked:

Can disc herniations cause symptoms of intercostal neuralgia? 4 in thoracic, 3 in lumbar. asked pcp and ortho, and they were vague. thanks!

A doctor has provided 1 answer

It is possible: Herniated discs in the thoracic region can cause thoracic radiculopathy -- pain that radiates into the chest in the distribution of the nerve from the spine at the level of compression from the disc herniation. This could follow an "intercostal" type pattern. Having said that, not every bulging or herniated disc will cause symptoms.
