I assume there has been no recent injury. Persistent calf pain, especially with tenderness or any swelling of leg or ankle raises question of phlebitis and for this reason you should be examined by your physician or a vascular surgeon although you may have an inflammation or strain of the calf muscle as a cause of your symptoms.
