Most irritant conditions become innocuous or heal, but eyes are special. You should ask you opthamologist what he thinks and advises.

If the eyesight was normal before the dry eye, then the best corrected visual acuity should be normal after aggressive ocular lubrication. If an optometrist gave you an unsatisfactory exam, see an ophthalmologist (an eye MD). Screen for glaucoma and retinal disease, but unlikely in a 17 year old.
