For years now, i've had what i can only describe as a pulse that goes through my head. when i say pulse, i don't mean like heart rate, but like a wave that goes through my head. it only happens once or twice at a time, and is monthly. what is it?

My sense is that these episodes are caused by transient irritability of a scalp or forehead muscle or a superficial nerve and not something inside the brain. If you still have concerns consult a neurologist for evaluation and advice.
