When i consume certain food/drinks, the back of my throat only on one side (the tonsil area) feels inflamed and a bit swollen. i have no other reaction, it goes away after a couple hours. is this a form of allergy? why is it always on just one side?

I wouldn't regard this as an allergic reaction. It would be worthwhile to have a careful throat and neck examination by your physician or an otolaryngologist.
