A member asked:

Reading a study and dont understand odds ratio... if normal risk is 1 out of 100 and odds ratio is 7 if you do something. what is the new risk? would it be 7 out of 100???

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Odds ratio is the ratio of the probability a thing will happen over the probability it won’t. Probability is defined as risk of an event happening divided by total number of people at risk. Odds ratio 1= no association between exposure & occurrence OR<1= exposure is associated with decreased occurrence OR7 = strong association with exposure To convert OR to % will need more work. Hope it helps.
