Last wednesday i noticed the onset of a large external hemorrhoid. i have been stricken with at worst like 7/10 pain. no topical creams or tuck wipes help. its terrible now to sit and walk. what else can i do, and how long before seeking treatment?

I would try Sitz baths using salts you can get at drug store but discuss with your Dr. who can also be able to relive pain by removing the likely clot.

Since things are deteriorating, it is indeed time to contact your doctor. Yes, you can perform a few activities to relieve some symptoms, but more direct intervention seems appropriate.

Or clotted, bed rest for 24-48 hours with feet above hips, warm tub soaks for 15 -20 minutes 3-4 times per day and sometimes ice pack for 5 minutes at a time will usually work. If thrombosed and hard to the touch might consider incision and drainage by colorectal surgeon in the office to shorten the time of discomfort and swelling and bleeding.
