I received a test result that indicated-- commensal flora present. what does that mean in laymen's term? does it require treatment and/or do i need to follow-up with my doctor?

I assume you meant urine culture result. Commensal flora mean the bacteria are normally present in healthy person. Your urine was likely contaminated because you did not collect it appropriately. You are supposed with clean the area well and take the urine during voiding. Likely, you do not have UTI; otherwise, a predominant organism will grow with more than 100,000 colonies. No need for treatment

Agree with Dr. Le. If it was urine culture, you need to follow proper technique for collecting urine. Visit this site for instructions: https://www.healthline.com/health/urine-culture-clean-catch
