A member asked:

When a ureteroscopy is performed and a ureteral stent is put in place, does the ureterscope enter the urethra or is a cystoscope first inserted and the ureterscope placed through the working channel of the cystoscope?

There are various of methods of placing a ureteroscope. It may be placed directly through the urethra, or it may be passed though a sheath. The technique is dependent upon various factors, such as surgeon's preference, or anatomical considerations. If you hav questions about a specific concern related to a procedure you had, talk to the person who didit.

The ureteroscope is not passed thru the working channel of a cystoscope. It can be passed by itself or usually over a stent placed in the ureter thru a cystoscope which is then withdrawn and the ureteroscope passed over the stent
