A 60-year-old female asked:

Im 60. never smoked. zero alcohol intake. height fruit and dairy intake. walk and hike 4 x weekly. daily exposure to sunlight. weight 52 kg. height 163cm. recent scan showed considerable bone loss but still just in osteopenia. aclasta or not?

Treatment of osteopenia can either be with diet, calcium&vitamin D supplements &exercise as you are doing or with medications.Many of us physicians delay treating osteopenia with medications if fracture risk is low as efficacy is somewhat controversial and over medication is a concern. I think repeating the bone density study in a year is a reasonable approach.
