Usually with mastocytosis, the tryptase is elevated. But, there are other possibilities for your symptoms. Do you have an elevated hemoglobin? If so, you may have polycythemia vera. You should see a hematologist, or blood specialist, who will be able to do further blood testing and hopefully diagnose and treat whatever is causing the intense itching. Feel better real soon!

I agree with Dr. F but want to point out that in addition to too much red blood, itching without a rash can be due to diabetes,thyroid disorder, liver or kidney disease and certain malignancies. It's a good idea to start with the hematologist who will also order a complete metabolic profile blood screen and a thyroid panel if polycythemia isn't your problem.
