When i widen my eyes and focus it sometime i would notice waves of flashes towards the side of my vision when i look at the flashes it would disappear and move to another place. it dosent happen all the time, just sometimes mostly at night?

This is characteristic of a harmless vitreous floater. Worrisome signs would be sudden burst of lots of floaters seen in retinal detachment. If you still have concerns, consult an ophthalmologist for evaluation and advice.
