Most commonly following pneumonia, which will led this episode self limited and isolated with a variety of other conditions possible and making the possibility of recurrence high. Your doc will remain your best reference going forward and specifically if the pleural effusion reoccurs.

Pleurisy and pleural effusion, if no cause is obvious, need to treated as tuberculosis. Your doctor can should test for tuberculosis and treat you as if you have tuberculosis, unless another explanation for the lesion emerges. Wish you good health!
