Although rare, this might be the beginnings of a collagen vascular disease. However, may times in mothers with lupus, the lupus antibodies can be passed thru the placenta and remain transiently in the infant's blood for a short pd of time. After a while, these antibodies disappear...and with that, so may the petechiae. Obviously, you are correctly seeing a rheumatologist asap for the proper dx

A 2 year old with petechiae should be seen promptly by a pediatric hematologist. The diagnosis is much more likely to be UNrelated to the ANA. At 2 years of age, any antibodies from the mother are long since gone, usually by six months.
