Irregular periods: Irregular menstrual periods are common. The fluctuations of estrogen and progesterone can be easily affected by stress, weight gain/loss, thyroid problems, and uterine issues such as adenomyosis or fibroids. If the symptoms persist, talk to your Dr about your irregular periods and what testing can be done to determine the cause. Leap year has no effect on a period 5 days early.

Leap yrs aren't it.: Reasons for irregularity include weight gain or loss, breastfeeding, alcohol use, eating disorders, marked emotional stress, endometriosis, uterine fibroids, cervical polyps, polycystic ovarian syndrome, excessive exercise & pregnancy. When a girl has just started menstruating & around the time of menopause periods can be irregular.
