Common possibilities: The pharmacy may wait for preauthorization from your physician’s office as requested by your insurance or there is a question from the pharmacist in order to clarify prescription that needs to be answered by the physician.

Clarification : These days with electronic prescriptions being the norm, there is no longer the opportunity for the pharmacist to speak directly with the prescriber. It sounds like the pharmacist may have had a question for the doctor before he/she released the medication to you. Also, the doctor may have needed to provide additional information to your insurance before the medicine could be covered by your plan.
