Swallowed wire: This may pass through your stool without a problem, but not in all cases. You should go to the ED and get an evaluation. They may start with a X-ray, and follow the wire's movement hours later with another x-ray. Most (80 to 90 percent) ingested foreign bodies pass on their own. Endoscopic intervention is required in 10 to 20 percent of patients, and a small number need surgery 1%.
