A member asked:

Constipation 75% of the time for years. even soft stool is hard to push. leaking liquid stool sometimes (especially if nervous). deep pain in gut suggesting constipation, even for some soft stools. evidence for internal prolapse? or just constipation?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Chronic retention: Chronic stool retention is an issue that can occur as early as infancy or at any later time. Avoiding emptying for whatever reason can balloon the lower intestine & make their emptying less effective. Over time this nullifies the normal emptying signals & leaking is common. I would visit a GI doc with experience in this area. The issue can be fixed but often takes a year with a good plan.
