A member asked:

I have heard of some people experiencing lymph node swelling after the covid vaccine, particularly the second shot. how common of a side effect is that and how long after the shot would it take to appear and then go away?

Happens pretty often: Your lymph nodes swell when they a reacting to a new “threat” - a virus, a bacteria, etc. In this case your lymph nodes are reacting to the vaccine. That’s good. It means your lymph nodes are in the process of protecting you from a coronavirus infection. Should go away in 2-4 weeks, sometimes faster

COVID 19 vaccine: With Moderna vaccine - 10.2 % developed axillary swelling/ tenderness within 7 days after 1st dose & 14.2 % after second 2nd dose. Phase III trial for Pfizer only had unsolicited reports for lymphadenopathy so that data is likely to be significantly minimized. REF: https://www.ajronline.org/doi/pdf/10.2214/AJR.21.25604 * Lymph nodes usually normalize in about 2 weeks - sometimes up to 2 months.
