A member asked:

If a patient has had two seizures in his/her lifetime (both were three months apart but last one was 11 months ago) and he/she has been taking 2 1000mgs of keppra per day since the last seizure how do you reccommend tapering off of keppra?

Don’t: It’s a very specific issue and depends a great deal on your age, what type of seizure you had (there ARE different types), and what other medical conditions you have. Strongly suggest you go back to your Neurologist (or a new one if you didn’t like the last) and discuss any changes or tapering of seizure meds.

Risky idea: Agree with neurology followup, prior to making any medication changes. The risk of a breakthrough seizure is very real, and in your state, this event will prevent driving. This is complex with numerous nuances, so, proceed with caution and get appropriate medical advice.
