A member asked:

Is it safe to have a lotus birth? currently 32 weeks pregnant & considering it. mostly, because i know that to hospitals, birth is a business & they really only want my placenta for money. but its full of nutrients intended for my babys usage?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Such misinformation: The usual hospital practice is to store the placenta for future study if maternal or fetal infection concerns emerge. This is both a health safety and liability issue. After time passes without the need for study, the placenta is destroyed. It costs the hospitals to store & destroy the placenta. The idea that it is a profit motive is unfounded.
