Such misinformation: The usual hospital practice is to store the placenta for future study if maternal or fetal infection concerns emerge. This is both a health safety and liability issue. After time passes without the need for study, the placenta is destroyed. It costs the hospitals to store & destroy the placenta. The idea that it is a profit motive is unfounded.
