Very possible : Yes, very possible. That is a (relatively) high dose of prednisone. In anybody, but especially in the elderly, prednisone can cause a wide variety of neurological and muscoskeletal side effects Check in with the doctor who prescribed it - NOW

Somewhat typical: Of steroids causing severe muscle weakness in frail individuals. The condition for which your grandmother got the steroids for, known or unknown can definitely contribute as well. Physical therapy should be part of the recovery plan.
