Amlodipine: Amlodipine is a popular & effective treatment for hypertension. Usual doses are 5 or 10 mgs daily. Swelling of ankles is a non serious side effect. In moderate or severe hypertension, other meds like diuretic, ACE inhibitor,ARB, or beta blockers are also frequently added to achieve goal of 120-130/80. Regular exercise is actually helpful in lowering BP.

Amlodipine is safe.: Amlodipine is a safe drug. 2.5 mgm is a small dose if it is the only anti- hypertensive drug but all right if your pressure is well controlled. It is safe to exercise and may actually beneficial as long as you start with low levels and increase gradually. Sometimes people who need only a small dose of a single drug may be able to get away with salt and weight control alone.
