A member asked:

Can heavy metal chemical exposure cause parkinsons/damage to substantia nigra? chemicals such as cadmium, hex chrome, nickel, copper, manganese, and cyanide?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Yes, it can: Several years ago, it was demonstrated that manganese miners could develop Parkinson's. The relationship to other metals is not so consistent. There is also a relationship to carbon monoxide poisoning, and other causes of hypoxia.
