A member asked:

Does ros and oxidative stress from metals cause damage to the substantia nigra which causes lesions then in turn causes parkinsons?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

A few facts: (Have no clue what ROS is.) But we do know that Parkinson's can be caused by exposure to Manganese, Carbon Monoxide, Carbon Disulfide, viral Encephalitis, head trauma, and can be drug-induced, especially by major tranquilizers. NOT clear if lead, or iron play a role. Some pesticides may increase risk. The basal ganglia is quite sensitive to significant hypoxia.
